The result of 4th
quarter final wasn’t quite different from first three. Here, favorite New
Zeeland won the contest by beating West Indies by 143 runs. New Zeeland won the
toss and went for bat. Their start wasn’t fantastic as McCullum got out on 12
runs when team total was just 27. When team total reached at 89, Williamson
removed by Russell on 33 runs. Then things started going in New Zeeland’s way
as for the third wicket, WI had to wait till 38.3 overs, when New Zeeland was
reached on 232. At this score, Tylor was got run out by Benn on 42 runs. From
that point MJ Guptill started firing from one end and not only he completed his
century on 111 deliveries but also got double ton and contributed unbeaten 237
runs off 163 balls. CJ Anderson, GD Elliott, L Ronchi and D Vettori contributed
with their 15, 27, 9 and 8 runs respectively by MJ Guptill was alone roaring in
the ground and was very heavy from all for West Indians. At the end of the
assigned quota of 50 overs New Zeeland was on 393 on the loss of 6 wickets. For
J Taylor got 3 wicket in 7 overs for 71 runs and A Russell got 2 in 10 overs
for 96 runs.
West Indies also couldn’t
able to start well as on the total of 4, J Charles clean bolded by Boult. Boult
was looking in tremendous touch as he removed Simmons, Samuels and Ramdin in
quite quick time though C Gayle charged from the other end on the T Southee and
D Vettori. C Gayle’s resistance ended in 17th over by A Milne but he
played a good aggressive innings of 61 runs off 33 balls. West Indies charged
on rest of New Zeeland’s bowlers but they just couldn’t keep wickets in hand
and got all out in just 30.3 overs on 250. They scored quite quickly as it was
highest runs by any team in 30 odd overs. Besides C Gayle’s 61, J Holder and J Carter
contributed with their 42 and 32 runs.
All in
all, it was an entertaining contest especially after 35th over in
New Zeeland innings when MJ Guptill started charging and in 2nd
innings when Gayle and company started playing blistering strokes but at the
end one can say that it wasn’t West Indians day…
In the
semis, New Zeeland will now meet South Africa on 24th March, 2015.
