Bangladesh was reached in
the quarter-finals by winning games against weak sides. Though they played very
good against England and New Zeeland but they were not quite an opposition
against India which is still unbeatable in the tournament. In today’s game,
India decided to bat first after winning the toss. After a good opening start
of 75 runs. S Dhawan got stumped out on the bowling of Shakib Al Hasan. Soon
after Virat Kohli and Aginka Rehane also dismissed on just 3 and 19 runs
respectively but it was the 122 runs partnership between Suresh Raina and Rohit
Sharma which turned the match in India’s way. Rohit played beautiful and
matured innings of 137 off 126 while Raina made 65 off 57. In the last overs of
the innings, MS Dhoni, RA Jadeja and R Ashwin contributed 6, 23, 3 and 16 runs
respectively in the team’s total. By looking Bangladesh’s batting, it’s quite
enough and giant-like target. For Bangladesh young Taskin Ahmad took 3 wickets
while Mashrafe Mortaza, Robel Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan dismissed one batsman
each.
In reply, Tamim and Imrul
provided quite a handy start of 33 runs to Bangladesh before Tamim Iqbal got
out on a brilliant catch by skipper MS Dhoni behind the stumps. Imrul got run
out soon after at just 5 runs. Mahmudullah and Soumya Sarkar added 40 runs in
team’s total but M. Riyad got out at a tremendous catch by Dhawan at the
boundary line. After Soumya Sarkar’s dismissal on M. Shami’s bowl, Bangladesh
felt in deep trouble and new men just couldn’t handle the pressure and got
starting out one by one. Sakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, Sabbir Rehim and
Nasir Hossain got out on 10, 27, 30 and 35 runs respectively. Indian bowlers
removed Bengali tail order bating very quickly. U Yadav took 4 wickets while M.
Shami and RA Jadeja took 2 wickets each while Mohit Sharma dismissed one
batsman. With this victory, India become first team in this WC which didn’t
lose any game yet…
